Knowledge Mobilization & Social Media

social media

Value is added to knowledge mobilization (KMb) by adding a social media strategy. Using social media to connect with a variety of sources on topics of interest is a great way to start and nurture valuable knowledge exchange relationships, and allows knowledge to be shared more quickly than through traditional modes of knowledge exchange (academic/institutional environments).

Different Forms, People, Styles & Sectors Of Knowledge

Knowledge mobilization is about exchanging knowledge content in many different forms and connecting people with many different learning styles to share their knowledge in different formats to engage knowledge from a variety of sectors.

Evidence Beyond Our Own Back Yard

Evidence for social benefit needs to be part of the policy process for decision and policymakers – but evidence alone is not simply about what works for politicians or institutions as a type of policy-evidence. Evidence from shared knowledge also stems from and includes ideas, context, values, norms and interests from a wide-range of individuals to create social change.  The ultimate role of evidence is to reach out and connect beyond one political structure or institution to the world around us – making the world a better place for everyone.

Today’s Knowledge Inspiration: Connecting Individual Knowledge To Human Knowledge

We cannot build a better world without improving individual knowledge. To that end each of us must work for our own knowledge development and improvement, and at the same time show a general responsibility for all humanity. Each of us has a particular duty to be open to new and different knowledge, and to help those who think their knowledge is “useless” or “not worthy” to see their own potential – while also helping those who think they hold “true” knowledge to look beyond.

Knowledge improvement for ourselves and our world should be considered everyday.  But many never take effort to reach this understanding.  We all know from our jobs that if we don’t do the work necessary, our jobs don’t get done.  It’s the same with knowledge - if we don’t put any effort into improving and sharing knowledge, we simply – as humanity – won’t improve.  Our individual knowledge, skills, abilities and experiences can ALL contribute to the ongoing process of progressive human knowledge – we just need to recognize the connection between the individual and humanity.

It’s important for each of us to see that sharing our knowledge of anythingeven our “mistakes” – makes us much more able to help others -  much more able to be useful to someone else because of our individual life experiences and knowledge.

Humanity’s progressive knowledge only improves when we strive to improve ourselves, being open to new and different knowledge – while sharing our own experiences along the way.  It’s about connecting as an individual to humanity.
